On June 27, 2023, former Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Sean Fraser made an important announcement about a new solution for foreigners who have a work permit. Previously, such people had the right to study under programs that give a course of up to 6 months. This has been a major obstacle for many whose goals of upgrading their skills or acquiring new skills required longer training.
From now on and for 3 years, holders of valid work permits, as well as those who applied for an extension of their work permit before June 7, 2023, and have an actual work permit, have the right to study until the expiration date of their work permit.
If a foreign worker wishes to study for longer than the validity period of his work permit, he still needs to apply for a study permit.
