Great news for foreign workers who want to receive additional training

As you know, British Columbia is committed to using the Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) to address the province’s most critical labour market and economic needs, despite a 50% cut to the BC budget for this year.

Key updates:

  • Eligibility for the Health Authority stream will now be limited to positions that directly contribute to the delivery of health services, such as physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals;
  • Following consultation with the Ministry of Education and Child Care, future Targeted Invitations to Apply (ITAs) will focus on early childhood educators. Teacher assistants will no longer be selected;
  • The BC PNP is pausing plans to launch three new student streams until allocation levels are restored in BC;
  • The BC PNP does not plan to resume general or priority Targeted Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in 2025. Instead, the program will issue a limited number of ITAs to registered Skills Immigration participants;
  • It is advised that applications for the International Postgraduate Program (IPG) received between 1 September 2024 and 7 January 2025 will be placed on a waiting list until new applications become available.

All remaining applications received in 2024 and early 2025 will be processed in 2025.
