Great news for foreign workers who want to receive additional training

Following the outbreak of civil war in Khartoum on April 15, 2023, Canada served as a facilitator among like-minded countries to consider possible responses to the crisis.

As part of these discussions, on February 20, 2025, Mark Miller announced that Canada would accept more refugees affected by the conflict in Sudan over the next two years and would increase the number of places available under the family-based permanent residence program.

Canada will commit to resettling up to 4,000 refugees supported by the Government of Sudan by the end of 2026. It will also support an additional 700 privately sponsored refugees for whom Canada intends to waive the refugee status determination document requirement.

The Minister also noted that the number of applications accepted for processing for permanent residence through family reunification will increase from 3,250 to more than 5,000, allowing Canada to accept approximately 10,000 people under this program.
