Great news for foreign workers who want to receive additional training

Using the WP (Work Permit) as an example, today we will look at important rules that should be followed to maintain your status.

As you know, the expiration date of your Work Permit is the time when you must stop any work activity in Canada. In most cases, this corresponds to the expiration date of your temporary status.

You lose your status if:

  • The WP expired before you applied for its extension or change;
  • You do not adhere to the terms of your work permit.

What should you do if you lose your temporary worker status?

In this case, you are no longer eligible to work. If you want to stay in Canada and resume working, you must apply for reinstatement within 90 days and get your WP again.

You can apply for reinstatement if you:

  • Apply within 90 days of losing your status;
  • Met the requirements of your stay (e.g. not working illegally);
  • Met the conditions of your expired permit before it expired.

If you lose your status and do not apply for reinstatement within 90 days, you must:

  • Leave Canada;
  • Apply again outside of Canada if you want to work here again.
