Recently, the Government of Saskatchewan announced changes to the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) in response to federal government cuts to the program.
As reported, the Government of Canada has cut nominations for all provincial nominees by 50% beginning in 2025, leaving Saskatchewan with 3,625 nominations, the lowest since 2009, and added a requirement that 75% of all nominees must already be living in Canada as temporary residents.
To address the federal government’s cuts, the Government of Saskatchewan is making changes to the SINP, effective immediately.
Changes to SINP include:
- Approvals for international candidates will be prioritized for health, agriculture, and skilled trades. Recruitment for all other sectors and occupations will only be supported for candidates who are already temporarily residing in Canada on a valid temporary visa;
- Nominations for the accommodation, food service, retail, and trucking sectors will be capped at 25% of the total annual nominations;
- Spas, beauty salons, and pet grooming services (excluding veterinarians) are no longer eligible to recruit through SINP.
